MONROE
COUNTY (NY) VOLUNTEER FIRE POLICE ASSOCIATION RECEIVE AEROLIGHT™
WEARABLE ILLUMINATION DEVICES
ROCHESTER,
N.Y. – (March 3, 2007) – The Monroe County Volunteer
Fire Police Association is the first public safety organization
outfitted and authorized to use AeroLight™ self-illuminating
personal safety gear at emergency scenes in the country. The
wearable devices will make Fire Police officers more visible
to motorists when approaching emergency scenes. Funding for
the gear was provided by a state grant secured through the
efforts of State Senators James Alesi and Joseph Robach. Approval
for use of the equipment at emergency scenes was given by
the Monroe County Volunteer Fire Chief’s Association.
This
is an important development for public safety and the emergency
responder community in Upstate NY. Monroe has set a precedent
as the first county to adopt this break-through technology
for its Fire Police squads. The county currently has over
two hundred and fifty active Fire Police. Fire Police are
volunteer firefighters who support local fire departments
as peace officers with the same authority as police officers
to regulate traffic at the scene of fires or other emergencies.
AeroLight™
self illumination technology is manufactured in Rochester
by AeroLife Products, Inc. and represents the next generation
of personal protective equipment. The electro-luminescent
devices emit a darkness-piercing glow that is more visible
from a greater distance than any other light source, especially
in elements such as smoke, fog, snow, or rain. In addition,
each device is also retro-reflective.
Extensive
field testing by the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen's
Association and its affiliates validate the technology. Mr.
Jerry Daniels, a Fire Police Officer in Newark, DE and a ranking
member of the Cumberland Valley association asserts: “Our
main concern is safety. Anything we can use that makes us
more visible in today's world is definitely a plus.”
Local Fire Police leaders agree that personal safety is the
number one concern and are proud to team up with Mr. David
Orange, President of AeroLife to reach this goal.
